Solihull Moors suffered a 3-0 defeat to National League leaders Boreham Wood at Damson Park on Saturday. The loss leaves the Moors 23rd in the table with just seven points from 11 games, a stark contrast to their opponents' perfect start.

Ben Whitfield scored twice for the visitors, finding the net in the 43rd and 47th minutes to give his side a commanding half-time lead. Jay Bird added a third in the 76th minute, sealing a comfortable victory for the league's top side. The result extends Solihull's difficult run of form, which now reads two wins and three losses from their last five outings.

Team changes and debut

Manager Scott Cattell made several changes to his starting lineup. Max Metcalfe started in goal, replacing Nat Ford. Captain Alex Whitmore and Junior Tiensia both returned from injury to reclaim their defensive spots, replacing Callum McFarlane and Ben Worman. Matty Carson was selected at left-back ahead of Cam Green.

New signing Florent Hoti, who joined on a short-term deal, was named on the bench and made his club debut in the second half when he replaced Tiensia. The defeat follows a 4-2 away win at Woking just three days prior, a result that now feels like a distant memory given the heavy nature of this loss.

A widening gap

The gulf between the two sides was evident. Boreham Wood remain unbeaten this season with 29 points from 11 matches, putting them 22 points clear of Solihull Moors. The Moors have now conceded 28 goals this campaign, the second-highest total in the division, while scoring only 13.

After the match, Cattell acknowledged the supporters. "Thank you as always to the supporters, your continuous backing doesn't go unnoticed," he said. The team must now regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture, a home match against FC Halifax Town on Saturday, October 3rd. Halifax currently sit 15th, providing another tough test. The manager will be hoping for a positive response from his reshuffled side as they look to climb away from the relegation zone.
