Solihull Moors suffered a cruel 2-1 home defeat to Aldershot Town on Saturday, undone by a stoppage-time own goal. The result leaves Andy Whing's side rooted to the bottom of the National League with just one point from their opening seven games.
Ben Wodskou had given the Moors the lead in the 44th minute, finishing from a Jamey Andrews assist. The advantage was cancelled out in the 72nd minute when Aldershot's Ben Peart scored, setting up a tense finale. The decisive moment came in the second minute of added time as defender Mark Metcalfe turned the ball into his own net under pressure.
Whing's reaction
The manager acknowledged the difficult run his team is enduring. "It's a tough one to take, conceding that late," Whing said. "We have to be better at seeing games out."
This latest setback extends a winless run that now stands at five matches, with the team's form reading LLDLL. They have conceded 19 goals this season, the highest total in the division, while scoring only seven.
The fixture list offers little respite, with a trip to face high-flying Boreham Wood next on the schedule. That match is set for Tuesday night, a quick turnaround for a squad searching for its first league win. The club's upcoming fixtures show a critical period ahead.
